Here is the NYC Transit service plan for the Christmas 2015 holiday:

Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24

The New York City Subway will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

New York City buses will operate on weekday schedules with minor timing changes, except on Staten Island, where limited-stop routes S81, S84, S86, S90, S91, S92, S94, S96 and S98 will not operate. Weekday local service will operate along those routes. Limited-stop routes S89 and S93 will operate on weekday schedules with minor timing changes. All Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens “X” express routes will operate on weekday schedules with minor timing changes.

Christmas Day, Friday, December 25

The New York City Subway will operate on a Sunday schedule, and New York City buses will operate on a holiday schedule. Bus customers can use MTA Bus Time for real-time bus arrival estimates.

Here is the LIRR service plan for the Christmas 2015 holiday:

The Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers expected to leave work early to begin their Christmas holiday. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:43 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Far Rockaway Branches.

Ronkonkoma Branch – Two Trains:

12:43 p.m. stopping at, Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then local to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn)

1:52 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then local to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn)

Babylon Branch – Six Trains:

1:28 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

1:55 p.m. express to Jamaica, stopping at Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

2:22 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

2:32 p.m. express to Lynbrook, then local to Babylon

3:00 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

3:31 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

Port Jefferson Branch – Three Trains:

2:08 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then local to Huntington

2:29 p.m. stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then local to Huntington

3:24 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville

Port Washington Branch – One Train:

3:40 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main Street, then all stops to Great Neck

Far Rockaway Branch – One Train:

3:48 p.m. stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, Valley Stream, then all stops to Far Rockaway

Christmas Day Service:

On Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, the LIRR will operate on a holiday schedule.

Extra Holiday Service on Weekends through January 2‐3:

The LIRR is running four extra westbound trains and six extra eastbound trains on weekends during the holiday season. The remaining weekends are December 26‐27 and January 2‐3. Information about these trains can be found in the Long Beach Branch and Port Jefferson Branch timetables. The Long Breach Branch trains are also listed at appropriate shared stations in the Far Rockaway Branch timetables.

Discounted Family Fare:

Discounted Family Fares will be available during the Christmas‐New Year’s holidays. As many as four children, ages 5‐11, can ride for the deeply discounted Family Fare of $1.00 per child when accompanied by a fare‐paying adult or guardian. The Family Fare is available for off‐peak and
PM peak trains only. Children under 5 ride free on the LIRR.

MTA Metro‐North Railroad wants to help you celebrate the most wonderful time of the year by providing all the service you’ll need for the upcoming holidays.

Look for a Christmas/New Year’s Eve Holiday Timetable in Grand Central or at outlying stations. Or visit our schedules page for train times.

Christmas Eve: Thursday, December 24

Metro‐North will be on a regular weekday schedule with 18 additional early getaway trains (five on the Hudson Line, three on the Harlem Line and 10 on the New Haven Line) departing Grand Central Terminal between noon and 4:10 p.m.

In addition to regular West of Hudson service, Metro‐North will provide two early getaway trains.

On the Port Jervis Line, a train departs Hoboken at 2:41 PM (Penn Station‐ NY at 2:29 p.m., arriving at Secaucus at 2:38 p.m.).

The 6:13 PM from Hoboken (6:03 PM from Penn Station‐NY) will not operate due to decreased ridership.

On the Pascack Valley Line, the Friday‐only train that departs Hoboken at 2:58 p.m. (Penn Station‐NY at 2:51 p.m., arriving at Secaucus at 3:01 p.m.) will operate on Thurs., Dec. 24.

Also, the 7:20 p.m. from Hoboken (7:13 p.m. from Penn Station‐NY) will not operate.

Christmas Day: Friday, December 25

Due to lighter ridership Christmas Day, Metro‐North will provide hourly service on all East of Hudson lines. A weekend schedule will be in effect for West of Hudson service.

Day after Christmas: Saturday, December 26

Metro‐North will run a regular Saturday schedule with Shoppers’ Specials trains on the Hudson and New Haven Lines. A weekend schedule will be in effect for West of Hudson service.

Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday, December 26 at Yankee Stadium

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Duke Blue Devils college football game at 3:30 p.m. Shuttle service will be provided between Grand Central, Harlem‐125th Street and Yankees‐East 153rd Street stations. Click here for more information, including schedules and fares.

Monday‐Wednesday, December 28‐30

Metro‐North will provide a weekday schedule with additional trains to Grand Central Terminal on all East of Hudson lines during our heaviest travel times (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). With lighter ridership during the peak periods this week, some morning rush hour trains are canceled or combined to free up trains and crews for these additional trains. Avenue X F Line Station Renewal Completed

Earlier today, MTA NYC Transit announced that station renewal work at the Avenue X F Train station has been completed. The station will reopen this Monday. Here are the complete details via the official press release:

Beginning at 5:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, F Line customers will once again have access to the newly refurbished Queens-bound platform at the Avenue X station in Brooklyn. The six-month station renewal project is part of a major $80.5 million capital project, awarded to Kiska Construction Inc. that will completely renew nine stations along the Culver F Line.

$9.2 million dollars in improvements at Avenue X include the replacement of staircases, doors, windows, concrete precast platform panels, as well as ADA improvements consisting of the installation of a new platform edge and tactile warning strips. The station was painted and outfitted with new windscreen panels, light fixtures, railings and a new mezzanine passageway and floor.

The Queens-bound platform at Avenue X was closed on June 29, 2015. “These improvements will create significantly better conditions for our customers, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we carried out this important work,” said Acting SVP Subways, Wynton Habersham.
