Metro North MLK Jr Day Service Info

Here is the MTA Metro-North Railroad service plan information for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr 2018 holiday:

Metro-North will operate on an enhanced Saturday schedule that includes 35 additional trains. The enhanced Saturday service includes 14 extra trains on the Harlem Line, including one additional Wassaic connection, 3 Hudson Line extras, and 15 extra New Haven Line trains offering branch connections. For West of Hudson customers, there will be 3 additional trains on the Port Jervis Line. Off-peak fares apply all day.

The Hudson Rail Link and the Haverstraw-Ossining and Newburgh-Beacon ferries will operate on special schedules

The extra Hudson, Harlem and New Haven trains’ departure times are included in the current Metro-North timetables, dated October 6, 2017, and shaded with notes indicating that they will operate on January 15. The timetables are available at stations or online at Metro-North’s website at www.mta.info/mnr by accessing the schedules link, where one can access for full timetables for each branch or select desired travel times and destination.  The extra Port Jervis Line service is reflected in the current West of Hudson schedule, dated January 7, 2018.

Metro North To Run Reduced Schedule

The first snowstorm of 2018 has come & gone and left quite the mess behind. The MTA faced delays throughout the system in the various forms offered to riders. Due to the conditions from the storm, the MTA Metro-North has announced it will be running a reduced schedule. Here are the complete details via the press release I was sent:

For Friday, January 5,  Metro-North is operating a reduced weekday schedule with some combined and cancelled trains due to the impact of the winter storm and extremely low termperatures on our train service and our infrastructure. Customers should anticipate delays and use caution when entering/exiting trains, and on platforms /staircases.

Please refer to the curent timetable and note the following trains are cancelled/combined:

Hudson Line

Inbound-AM PEAK:

The 7:11 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 6:46 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 7:40 am train from Irvington to GCT is combined with the 7:38 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 8:20 am train from Irvington to GCT is combined with the 7:56 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 8:19 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 8:12 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 8:46 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 8:23 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 9:43 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 9:31 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 10:11 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 10 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 10:39 am train from Greystone to GCT is combined with the 10:31 am train from Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

Outbound-PM PEAK:

The 3:52 pm train from GCT to Greystone is combined with the 4:08 pm train to Croton-Harmon, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 5:11 pm train from GCT to Beacon is combined with the 5:08 pm train to Poughkeepsie, which will depart GCT at 5:11 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 5:23 pm train from GCT to Greystone is combined with the 5:20 pm train to Croton-Harmon, which will depart GCT at 5:23 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 5:43 pm train from GCT to Greystone is combined with the 5:40 pm train to Croton-Harmon, which will depart GCT at 5:43 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 6:03 pm train from GCT to Greystone is combined with the 6:00 pm train to Croton-Harmon, which will depart GCT at 6:03 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 7:28 pm train from GCT to Greystone is combined with the 7:25 pm train to Croton-Harmon, which will depart GCT at 7:28 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

Harlem Line

The 6:36 am train from Crestwood to GCT is combined with the 6:19 am from North White Plains, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 6:50 am train from Crestwood to GCT is combined with the 6:38 am from North White Plains, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 7:19 am train from Crestwood to GCT is combined with the 6:17 am from North White Plains, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 7:41 am train from Mt. Kisco to GCT is combined with the 7:21 am from North White Plains, which will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 6:49 pm train from GCT to Mt. Vernon West is combined with the 6:38 pm train to North White Plains, which will depart GCT at 6:49 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 6:59 pm train from GCT to Mt. Kisco is combined with the 6:56 pm train to Southeast, which will depart GCT at 6:59 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 7:24 pm train from GCT to Mt. Kisco is combined with the 7:21 pm train to Southeast, which will depart GCT at 7:24 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

Inbound PM:

The 8:16 pm train from Mt. Kisco to GCT is cancelled. Passengers at Mt. Kisco, Chappaqua and Pleasantville may take the 8:09 pm train from Southeast, which stops at those stations 18 minutes later. Passengers at stations between North White Plains and Fordham may take the 8:06 pm train from North White Plains, which stops at those stations 27 minutes earlier, or the 9:06 pm train from North White Plains, which stops at those stations 33 minutes later.

New Haven Line

Inbound-AM PEAK:

The 7:04 AM from New Rochelle is combined with the 6:30 AM from Stamford, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 6:49 AM from South Norwalk is combined with the 6:32 from Bridgeport, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 7:29 AM from Harrison is combined with the 6:32 AM from Bridgeport, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 7:51 AM from New Rochelle is combined with the 7:29 AM from Greenwich, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 8:17 AM from New Rochelle is combined with the 7:40 AM from Stamford, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 8:14 AM from Mamaroneck is combined with the 6:40 AM from New Haven, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 8:34 AM from Mamaroneck is combined with the 8:02 AM from Stamford, which will make all stops of both trains.

The 5:55 pm train from GCT to South Norwalk is combined with the 5:46 pm train to New Haven, which will depart GCT at 5:55 pm and will make all of the station stops of the two trains.

The 5:15 pm train from Harrison to GCT is cancelled. Passengers may take the 5:01 pm train from Stamford to GCT, which serves the same station stops 9 minutes later.

The 6:22 pm train from Harrison to GCT is cancelled. Passengers may take the 6:06 pm train from Stamford to GCT, which serves the same station stops 7 minutes later.

MTA Bus Gets Stuck In Sinkhole

Talk about your commute giving you that sinking feeling, a MTA bus on the B49 line got stuck in a sinkhole in Brooklyn after a water main break occurred due to the deep freeze conditions.

Here is more via a report from ABC 7 Eyewitness News:

An MTA bus was briefly stuck in a sinkhole caused by an eight inch water main break undermining an intersection in Brooklyn.

The water main break created a sinkhole about six feet in diameter at Oriental Boulevard and West End Avenue in the Manhattan Beach section.

The B49 bus was pulled out of the sinkhole in the overnight hours. The driver and two passengers were on board at the time.

Approximately 30 homes and four businesses within the vicinity are temporarily without water service.

West End Avenue and Oriental Boulevard are closed through the area.

Thankfully no injuries occurred due to the sinkhole. I would not be surprised to see more sinkholes pop up throughout the region as the temperatures continue to be so dangerously low.

MTA Worker Injured In Work Train Accident

The big transit news of the week in NYC was the closure of the 53rd Street tunnel which has caused service changes to the E Train & M Train. Now comes word that a MTA worker was injured when two work trains involved in work on the project bumped into each other. Meghan Giannotta of AM New York has more:

Two MTA work trains collided in the 53rd Street tunnel early Wednesday morning leaving one person injured, the transit service said.

The two trains “bumped into each other” in the tunnel under the East River between Manhattan and Queens around 5 a.m., the MTA said. The trains did not derail, officials said.

One MTA employee was treated for injuries after the incident, they added. The injury is not life threatening, officials said.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the collision, an MTA spokesman said. It was unclear if there would be any disciplinary action taken against the crews involved.

The incident did not impact subway service during the morning commute, according to the MTA.

I am glad to hear that the worker was not seriously injured. I am real curious as to the results of the investigation as something like this should not be happening especially in such a controlled environment.
