10 LIRR Trains Canceled This Morning

Well the announcement of the LIRR expecting to have its service fully restored ended up not being true. The agency had announced last night that they expected a normal AM rush commute due to Amtrak promising to give them back their tracks by 4AM due to finishing repairs.

However Amtrak failed to finish on time as promised. The LIRR hopes to have full PM rush service. Here is more via the press release they literally just sent me:

Because Amtrak crews did not finish track repair work by 4 a.m. as promised and because they did not grant access to tracks overnight so that Long Island Rail Road could pre-position trains, LIRR is forced to once again operate a reduced morning rush-hour schedule this morning, which impacts 14 trains. The LIRR normally operates 144 morning rush hours train, 98 of which go to Penn Station.

LIRR must cancel 10 trains to Penn Station between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., terminate three trains at Jamaica, and divert one train to Hunterspoint Avenue, Queens, because of reduced tracks available by Amtrak.

New York City Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets at Jamaica, Atlantic Terminal and Hunterspoint Avenue.

Metro-North West-of-Hudson Customers

Metro-North’s customers of the Port Jervis Line and Pascack Valley Line will have regular train schedules to Hoboken. But Metro-North advises customers that train service from Secaucus will be reduced in accordance with information released by NJ TRANSIT. As a result, Metro-North’s Port Jervis Line and Pascack Valley Line customers who are bound for New York City are advised to remain on their trains until the train reaches Hoboken. There, customers will find continuing service to Manhattan via PATH trains.

With extra NJ TRANSIT trains scheduled to enter Hoboken station tomorrow, Hoboken-bound customers should expect congestion-related delays and plan extra time for travel.

For the latest service updates, Pascack Valley Line and Port Jervis Line customers are encouraged to sign up for NJ TRANSIT’s email alerts at njtransit.com/mytransit, use the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App and DepartureVision website, and follow @NJTRANSIT on Twitter.

26 LIRR Trains Affected By NJT Derailment

The PM commute for LIRR riders will once again be extra tough after the NJT derailment from earlier as 26 trains will be canceled or originate from elsewhere. Here are the complete details via the press release I received:

Because of an NJ TRANSIT derailment at Penn Station this morning and continuing track repairs, the Long Island Rail Road needs to cancel 18 trains from Penn Station between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and have 8 others originate at Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, or Jamaica, Queens. Normally 87 LIRR trains depart from Penn Station during this time. The cancellations are necessary to allow NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak, which runs Penn Station, the exclusive use of Tracks 13-16, which are normally shared with LIRR; the move means four of the nine Penn Station tracks used by the LIRR for the evening rush hour are not available for use as a result of the derailment.

The remaining LIRR trains from Penn Station could experience delays and crowding.

The LIRR will operate on near normal schedules out of Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, and Hunterspoint Avenue, Queens. New York City Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets at 34th Street-Penn Station on the and .

There will be no westbound service between Jamaica and Penn Station from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Customers will be able to transfer to the subway for continuing service to Penn Station. New York City Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets at Woodside and Jamaica.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., westbound Port Washington Branch trains will terminate at Woodside, where customers will be able to transfer to the subway for continued service to Manhattan.
