L Line Service Diversion Due To Fencing Upgrade

Earlier today, MTA New York City Transit announced that the L Train will run in two sections for a few weekends due to a fencing upgrade at its Canarsie Yard. Here are the complete details via press release:

MTA New York City Transit announced that there will be several weekend diversions on the L line due to the Canarsie Yard Fencing Upgrade. The existing fence is being replaced with new security perimeter fencing. This new fencing is designed to be more difficult to cut or climb, thus providing increased protection against vandalism and other unauthorized activities.

The weekend work will take place from 6 a.m. on Saturdays to 6 p.m. on Sundays. During that time, the L will operate in two sections:

• Between 8th Avenue and Broadway Junction

• Between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Parkway (every 24 minutes).

The weekend dates are: July 9-10, July 23-24, July 30-31, August 6-7, August 13-14 and *September 24-25. Security during the project will be maintained through the use of Jersey barriers with security fencing above it.
