As Expected, The 2 Produces More Of The Same

Since the debut of the Rider Report Cards, it has been painfully obvious that the more things change, the more they stay the same. For the second year in a row, a subway line finished with the same overall grade from its inaugural results. This time the 2 Train is the line that did not see a change as it once again finished with an overall grade of C. Lets go straight to the breakdown starting with:

2 Train Riders’ Top 10 Priorities; 2007 priority rank will be in ( ):

01. Adequate room on board at rush hour ( 3 )

02. Reasonable wait times for trains ( 1 )

03. Minimal delays during trips ( 2 )

04. Station announcements that are easy to hear ( 4 )

Quite frankly I can’t say much about this report card as it is almost identical to the results of 2007. You can check out my feelings on that report by clicking here. However I will throw in a few comments.

I will start with a lower result turnout which has been the status quo with all the results released so far in the 2nd year of the Rider Report Cards. This time the MTA received 3,430 responses compared to 4,028 for the initial report card. Even though the results are pretty much identical, I do find it disheartening that the top 3 priorities remain the same albeit in a different order.

I also feel it is disappointing that 2 of the 3 top priorities received a lower grade from 2007’s results. Overall no priorities from the 2007’s initial results dropped out of the top 10. This is never a good sign for a line that is one of the system’s major players.

The MTA needs to seriously look at how they can better the performance of all their lines. However with a possible “doomsday budget” being implemented in the near future, improvements will not be coming as fast as riders would want.
