Earlier this afternoon, MTA NYC Transit announced that the Manhattan-bound 111th & 80th St would be closed for 3 months. Here are details via the official press release:
Starting Monday, December 28, MTA New York City Transit will close the Brooklyn-bound platforms at 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street, as part of an ongoing major $39 million renewal project at five stations along the Liberty Avenue Line: 80 St-Hudson Street, 88 St-Boyd Avenue, Rockaway Blvd, 104 St-Oxford Avenue, and 111 St-Greenwood Avenue.
Station renewal work at 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street will consist of repairs or replacement of mezzanine to platform stairs, mezzanine floors, doors, windows, interior and exterior walls, and the installation of new platform edges and ADA tactile warning strips. Each station will be painted and canopies, windscreen panels and railings will be replaced. Customers will also benefit from new lighting in the mezzanines, and other amenities, including new artwork. Similar work was recently completed on the Queens-bound platforms.
These improvements will create significantly better conditions for customers who use these stations, which were originally opened in the early 1900’s. The construction contracts were awarded in December 2013 as a joint venture to Forte Construction Corp and Emis Construction Group.
In order to carry out work on this project in a safe and efficient manner, the Manhattan-bound platforms at the 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street stations will temporarily close on Monday, December 28 at 12:01 a.m. until Spring 2016. Normal A service will be provided travelling towards Queens. Newly refurbished Queens-bound platforms at the two stations reopened to customers on December 12.
Manhattan-bound customers travelling to 111 St-Greenwood Avenue should take the Q112 bus, days and evenings. Customers can also take a Brooklyn-bound A to 104 St-Oxford Avenue and transfer to an Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard-bound A train. Customers travelling from 111 St-Greenwood Avenue must take an Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd bound A train to Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd and transfer to a Brooklyn-bound A.
Manhattan-bound customers travelling to 80 St-Hudson Street must take the A to Grant Av and transfer to an Ozone Park/Far Rockaway-bound A. Customers travelling from 80 St-Hudson Street must take an Ozone Park/Far Rockaway-bound A to 88 St-Boyd Avenue and transfer to a Brooklyn-bound A.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we carry out this important work. To ensure that our customers are well informed of alternate service during these station closures, notices will be posted in all stations along the Liberty Avenue Line prior to the commencement of work and announcements will be made on trains. Brochures are also available at station booths.
