42nd St Shuttle Results Produce Laughs

Shuttle TrainNot the 42nd Street Shuttle but a Shuttle train nonetheless! Resized photo courtesy of Eye On Transit.

In the most recent Rider Report Card entries, I have talked about things remaining the same. Unfortunately for the MTA, the one time they would have liked that to be the case turned out not to be. In 2007’s Rider Report Card, the 42nd Street Shuttle finished with an overall grade of B-. However the riders were not as kind this time around as its 2008 final report card grade was a C-. Lets get to the breakdown:

Oh boy, where do I begin with this one. I found the 2007 Rider Report Card esults comical when looking at the top priorities riders worried about. Here is a quick sample of my analysis from last year:

I find this report card either downright comical or worried that we have people severely lacking common sense filling them in. I want to first tackle the desire to have adequate room on board during rush hour. Yes, I will be the first to admit the cars on the shuttle look like a can of sardines. However the shuttle is 1 stop long, I think dealing with a crush load for 1 stop between Times Square & Grand Central is more than doable for straphangers.

You can view the entire analysis by clicking here.

Quite honestly the complaints are comical considering the length of the route. How much time can one possibly spend on the shuttle to feel compelled to complain? I think the best part was the “Signs in stations that help riders find their way” climbing 7 spots. If you have issues with the signs in 42nd Street-Grand Central & 42nd Street-Times Square, that is on you.
