MTA To Introduce New Generation Hybrid Electric Bus

Yesterday afternoon I received a press release to announce the MTA’s introduction of the new generation hybrid electric buses. 850 of these new buses have been ordered with 125 scheduled to go into service on Staten Island. Here are the details to the press & photo opportunity:

MTA NYC Transit has ordered 850 Orion VII New Generation Hybrid-Electric buses, 125 of which will be assigned to Staten Island. The new buses boast an attractive new look that sets them apart from current buses. Aside from its unique look, the Orion VII Next Generation bus incorporates proven hybrid-electric technology which offers efficient operation and reduced tailpipe emissions.

WHO: Joseph Smith, Senior Vice President, Department of Buses, MTA NYC Transit.

WHAT: MTA New York City Transit introduces new Hybrid-Electric Bus into passenger service.

WHEN: Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Castleton Bus Depot, 1390 Castleton Avenue, Staten Island.

If anyone happens to go, I would love to be e-mailed some pictures. Unfortunately I can’t make it due to prior commitments.
